Admission Eligibility
Meet the minimum age requirement as defined by CDPH
Ability to read, write, and understand English
Physically and mentally capable of performing nurse assistant duties
Willingness to comply with all program policies and procedures
Enrollment Process
Submission of program application
Review of eligibility requirements
Completion of required background screening
Completion of health clearance requirements
Confirmation of enrollment and program start date
Enrollment is contingent upon successful completion of all required steps.
Healthcare Screening & Compliance
Criminal Background Clearance (Live Scan)
All applicants are required to complete a criminal background clearance through the California Department of Justice Live Scan process:
- Live Scan must be completed prior to clinical placement
- Clearance is required to participate in supervised clinical training
- Applicants are responsible for associated Live Scan fees
- Results are reviewed in accordance with state regulations
Tuberculosis (TB) Clearance
Applicants must provide proof of tuberculosis (TB) clearance prior to program participation.
Acceptable documentation includes:
- Negative TB skin test (PPD), or
- Negative TB blood test (IGRA), or
- Chest X-ray report (if required)
TB clearance must be current and valid in accordance with healthcare facility and CDPH requirements.
Health Requirements
Applicants must meet health requirements necessary for participation in clinical training, which may include:
- Proof of required immunizations or titers, as specified by clinical facilities
- Physical examination or health clearance form
- Ability to safely perform required clinical duties
Drug Screening
Drug screening may be required by clinical facilities as a condition of participation in supervised clinical training:
- Applicants are responsible for any associated costs
- Failure to meet facility requirements may impact clinical placement
Drug Screening CPR & Basic Life Support (BLS)
CPR & Basic Life Support (BLS) Applicants must hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers prior to participation in clinical training. Acceptable documentation includes:
- Current BLS Provider certification issued by a recognized healthcare training organization
Additional notes:
- CPR/BLS training is provided by the institute through a certified instructor
- Certification must remain valid throughout the clinical training period
- CPR/BLS training does not count toward required CNA theory or clinical hours
CPR/BLS requirements are subject to clinical facility and regulatory standards and may vary by site.
